A SUMMARY
Sun and sea; gods and mortals; splendour and tragedy... Tales from ancient Greece hold our hearts even to this day, sharing timeless lessons about life, love and loss. In this online session I'll tell you stories of horrifying monsters, vengeful deities, daring heroes and desperate hopes - Perseus, Pegasus, Poseidon, the terrifying gorgon Medusa, and more... But these stories challenge us, demanding answers about both their time and ours: what does it mean to be a hero? What do we ask from our gods? Who deserves glory or hatred in the end? As a professional storyteller I've designed and delivered sessions on Greek myths for years, telling tales and leading workshops at primary schools, festivals and more. Step back in time with me now, and see these stories anew!
About your mentor
Jonathan Mason
Storyteller, historian and enthusiasm-sharer!
I've been a professional storyteller for five years, and have told Greek myths in schools every year in that time. Like many children, I was captivated by Greek myths from an early age, and I've continued studying and considering them throughout my life, finding connections through research into the myths, history and archaeology of the wider world. I've studied history to Masters level and completed a professional course from the Ashmolean Museum in Telling for Heritage. I have designed and delivered workshops for schools since 2015, as well as creating original performances for children and grownups at festivals, community events and self-organised gigs. Past bookings and participants have said: "Jon came to Hangleton Primary during our Book week and completely entranced the children with oral storytelling of universal themes of bravery, journey and love." - Teacher “The session was spot-on. The children were entranced (we’ve never known them so quiet!). They also remembered many of the facts you had given them and are now raring to find out more.” - Teacher, Elm Grove Primary
