A SUMMARY
For many families, homeschooling works better when one or more classes can be shared with a group. Parents and their children decide to regularly gather in each other's homes or a rented facility to cooperatively teach academic subjects like math or science or extra-curricular courses like art, sports, or drama. Better known as homeschool collaboratives, these groups generally have anywhere from five to 50 member families with homeschool parents volunteering to take responsibility for holding the group. Often the collaborative works best with a core provision which is then supplemented through the parent's initiative with various age-appropriate activities and experiences such as crafts, music, drama, environmental studies and sports. I offer half or whole day workshops for those interested in, planning or engaged in homeschool collaborative initiatives. I will tailor the session to your specific needs but in general, workshops are designed as a deep dive into what to include in a core provision, advice for rhythm and timetabling and setting up your environment effectively. We will cover reporting, parent relationships and progress monitoring best practices. We will also cover how you might integrate a complementary provision. During the workshops, I will discuss the legislation around homeschool collaboratives and share my experiences and insights. I will be delighted to include some time for you to see 'a day in the life' of my own thriving homeschool collaborative which supports 15 children from 4 to 12 years old. In my own setting, we provide a teacher-led core curriculum from Tuesday to Thursday. On the other two days, there are a range of additional learning experiences which are not taught by any of the staff in the core provision. If required I can share insights from the Waldorf pedagogy, although our experience is not limited to this philosophy. This workshop will provide an invaluable experience for anyone considering a similar provision or indeed any small educational setting. I also provide hourly consultations on a wide range of educational areas for both schools and parents. Zoom calls are charged at £30 per hour for teacher mentoring and £50 per hour for general advisory work. I also provide INSET days and teacher mentoring on request and specialise in formative assessment. Please contact me to discuss your requirements using the purple Contact Mentor button.
