A SUMMARY
ESA Jr provides a stepping stone experience toward our full Earth Steward Apprenticeship programme for teenagers and young people. Early in 2024 we are running some winter warmers days with themes of art of fire, winter tracking expedition, and some winter survival in the forest, 10am-3pm. If you want to find out more about these days then check out our Wyld Days listing at https://eequ.org/experience/823 ** Bring a drink and packed lunch. ** ESA Jr offers younger children (9-13) the opportunity to sink into the rhythms of nature, with a range of outdoor games, bushcraft activities and time to develop nature-based skills and crafts. The junior programme enables participants to develop deeper connections with themselves, each other and the natural world. We encourage them to feel the excitement of discovery, curiosity, creativity and community as they develop a sense of belonging through knowing their place in the world. The programme was designed to address the problem of Nature Deficit Disorder. It creates a space where rich experiences in nature can be processed and integrated in safe but exciting ways. It enables participants to: Develop a variety of skills to help them thrive in the natural environment Discover new and exciting ways to interact with the natural world Gain a greater depth of appreciation and understanding for nature Become more self-reliant Wherever our camps are located, our vision is to create a space where all kinds of people can come together to explore and express their connection to the earth, nature, self and others. A place where skills are shared and curiosity and understanding are nurtured, each individual can contribute to the collective wellbeing. A place where people can build strong and lasting relationships, not only with other people, but also with the plants and animals with whom we share the land. Please contact Phil Greenwood on phil@sacredearthland.co.uk for a kit list, medical/enrolment forms and directions. FYI drop off and pick up point is the public car park in Horam. Your child will be met there by one of our facilitators and the group will walk down the Cuckoo trail for 20 minutes, to arrive at our site decompressed and ready for a weekend spent in the great outdoors! Please note that for those choosing a day only ticket, when available, they will be walked back to Horam village car park for 4pm collection . Bring a packed lunch.
About your mentor
Phil
Nature educator & environmentalist
Hello, I'm Phil Greenwood. I am the founder of Sacred Earth. I'm a former Royal Marine Commando but have spent the last 20 years working with young people in outdoor education. I'm an experienced group facilitator, mentor and naturalist. I'm also part of the global 8 Shields nature mentoring movement and the Helpers' Mentoring Society. I strongly believe that our young people - especially teenagers - need rites-of-passage programmes to help them find their place in the world. At Sacred Earth we have set up the Earth Steward Apprenticeship to do just that. The programme helps young people develop their social and emotional intelligence through a range of experiential learning programmes. We encourage creativity, community, ingenuity and a deep connection with the natural world.
